Our Team

Ken Gratz, Ph.D.
Sr. Director of Cellular Engineering
Ken Gratz, Ph.D., leads the Chemistry, Manufacturing and Controls (CMC) functions for cellular therapeutics. His group oversees the process and analytical development of preclinical candidates and manages external vendors for manufacturing and release of clinical materials.
Prior to joining CiRC, Dr. Gratz spent more than a decade at Strata tech focused on developing a portfolio of cell-based skin tissues for wound treatment indications. He spent several years leading late-stage CMC development of Strata Graft skin tissue, an RMAT-designated product that is approved for the treatment of severe burns. He also led the development of several early-stage assets, overseeing all process development, analytical development, and nonclinical activities on the projects. He was lead author and project lead on competitive grants and contracts with a total value surpassing $300M. Dr. Gratz earned a Ph.D. in Bioengineering at UC San Diego, with a research focus on the biological and mechanical factors involved with cartilage degeneration and repair.
